Prateik Babbar did this film only for money

Prateik Babbar started his acting career with the 2008 hit film ‘Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na’. The film starred Genelia D’Souza and Imran Khan in the lead roles. This film has now completed 15 years. However, Prateik’s role as Genelia’s brother in the film was well received by the audience. Prateek recently told that he had taken this project purely for money. He wanted to spend this fee and enjoy with his friends.
Talking about his initial mindset in a recent interview, Prateik said that I didn’t know what I was doing in the film. I was not prepared at all. I was not worried about getting into any character. Who is my co-star? Who is a great actor? Who is a small actor etc. I meant money. I was going to get Rs 50,000 as acting fee and I was going to spend that money with my friends. That was my only motivation to do the film. It was because of Abbas Tyrewala’s patience and talent that he was able to extract performance from me. I remember he let me do my work. Didn’t try to direct them too much. He just made me comfortable. He told me to say whatever you want. I used to say that sir, I have not read the lines. He used to reply that ok now read the lines.
Interestingly, as the son of Raj Babbar and Smita Patil, Prateik’s family played no part in his casting for Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na. In fact, three weeks before the film’s release, co-producer Aamir Khan came to know about Prateik’s parents. Prateek told that Mr. Aamir Khan did not know that he was the son of Smita Patil and Raj Babbar. He came to know about this three weeks before the release when there was a party. This is where he got it and made a big deal about it.
Prateik’s acting skills further impressed Aamir Khan’s ex-wife Kiran Rao, who asked him to audition for ‘Dhobi Ghat’, which became his second film. Talking about the same, the actor said that Aamir’s ex-wife Kiran Rao was auditioning for ‘Dhobi Ghat’ at that time. He saw me at the premiere of ‘Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na’. After a week or two, they called me up and asked me to audition. I passed the audition and got that film too. Since his debut, Prateik has continued his acting journey and was recently seen in the Netflix film ‘Cobalt Blue’ and ZEE5’s ‘India Lockdown’.
