Punjab: 2 Indian-Americans elected to Virginia state legislature
Punjab: Two Indian-American Democrats have been elected to the General Assembly of the US state of Virginia after winning special elections, according to media reports. JJ Singh (44) and Kannan Srinivasan (58) emerged victorious in the state’s Loudoun County’s 26th House District and 32nd Senate District respectively on Tuesday. With 55 of the 57 precincts counted in the Senate race on January 7, Srinivasan secured 18,144 votes, 61% of the total votes, unofficial results from the Loudoun Office of Elections and Voter Registration showed. Singh secured 6,112 votes, 61% of the total votes. Srinivasan, a certified public accountant from Brambleton, took office in the House of Representatives in January 2024. He served on the Privileges and Elections and Health and Human Services committees, according to a report. Singh, who hails from Brambleton, is contesting for the first time. He serves on Loudoun County’s Economic Development Advisory Commission. Special elections were held in the Virginia General Assembly to fill vacant seats in the 32nd State Senate District and the 26th House of Delegates District.
