Rath Parikrama, the famous ritual of Bastar Dussehra, formally concluded on Tuesday.

Jagdalpur. Rath Parikrama, the famous ritual of Bastar Dussehra, formally concluded on Tuesday. As part of the last ritual of Rath Parikrama, the eight-wheeled chariot is taken to Kumharkot as per tradition by the villagers of Madiya town under Raini. After which the royal family reaches Kumharkot and convinces the villagers and brings back the chariot by eating Nawakhani kheer with them. In Bastar, big Dussehra is celebrated a day after Vijayadashami.

Unlike Ravana Dahan celebrated in other places of India, in Bastar the joyous celebration of Dussehra is seen in the form of chariot festival. In ancient times, Bastar was known as Dandakaranya. Which was the city of Ravana’s sister Surpanakha. Because of which the practice of burning Ravana is not prevalent in Bastar.
