Software engineer drowned in 100 feet deep mine while trekking, body found after two days

Bengaluru. The body of Vinay, a 30-year-old software engineer who went missing after drowning in an old stone mine filled with water while trekking in Karnataka, has finally been recovered. After this incident which took place in Yallamanadoddi area near Jigani, a massive rescue operation was carried out for two consecutive days. On Sunday morning, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and other rescue teams took out Vinay’s body from the mine.

The incident is reported to have taken place on October 2. Vinay, originally from Andhra Pradesh, was living in Halasuru area of Bengaluru. On Friday, he had gone trekking with a trekking team to Yallamanadoddi area near Jigani. After trekking during the day, in the evening some members of the team reached an old stone mine filled with water present in the area.

According to the information, about five members of the trekking team had entered the water of the mine. This mine is said to be about 100 feet deep. The stone excavation work had stopped here about 15 years ago. Due to non-use for a long time, the mine was filled with a large amount of water.

Vinay suddenly went missing after entering the water. The companions tried to search for them, but due to the great depth they could not find them. After this, information about the incident was given to the concerned officials and rescue teams. As soon as the information was received, a campaign was started to search for Vinay.

The rescue operation was extremely challenging due to the depth and water of the mine. Due to low visibility underwater and the structure of the mine, rescue teams had to struggle a lot in the search. Despite operations for several hours on the first day, Vinay could not be traced.

After this the search continued the next day also. NDRF was also deployed along with local teams in the rescue operation. Trained rescue workers examined different parts of the mine to search for Vinay underwater. Despite continuous efforts, success was not achieved even on Saturday.

After a two-day long operation, the rescue team was successful on Sunday morning. NDRF and other teams recovered Vinay’s body from underwater and brought him out of the mine. With the recovery of the body, the search operation that continued for nearly two days ended.

30 year old Vinay was a software engineer by profession. He was a native of Andhra Pradesh and was living in Halasuru, Bengaluru for work. On Friday he had gone out for trekking with other people. No one had any idea that this trekking trip would turn into a tragic accident.

After the incident, the question has also come up that what were the security arrangements around the stone mine which had been closed for a long time. The excavation of stone here was stopped about 15 years ago. After this, water accumulated in the mine and it turned into a water structure about 100 feet deep.

In such old mines it may be difficult to estimate the actual depth of water, the condition of the bottom surface and banks. Conditions such as underwater rocks and sudden depth can increase the danger. The complete details of what exactly happened to Vinay and how he went missing in the water will become clear only after investigation.

It is reported that about five people included in the trekking team had entered the mine water. The rest of the members came out, but Vinay could not return. After he went missing, colleagues and local people tried to help and later rescue agencies were informed.

After receiving information about the incident, rescue teams conducted the operation with special caution considering the depth of the mine. Searching for a person in deep water is more difficult than a normal rescue operation. This was the reason why it took about two days to locate Vinay.

After the body was recovered on Sunday morning, further legal process was started. The concerned authorities will investigate the circumstances to find out the actual cause of the incident. Information about the incidents can also be obtained from the people who went on trekking with Vinay.

This incident also draws attention to the need to follow safety rules during trekking and adventure activities. Descending into closed mines, deep reservoirs and unknown water areas can be particularly risky. The actual depth of such places and the dangers present underwater are difficult to estimate from outside.

After Vinay went missing, rescue operations were continued in the hope of finding him safe. NDRF and other rescue teams did not stop the search for two days. When his body was found on Sunday morning, the hopes of his family and friends were dashed.

At present the body has been taken out of the mine and necessary procedure is being done in the case. Whether there was any negligence or safety related lapse in this accident is a matter of investigation. According to available information, Vinay died after drowning in an old stone mine filled with water and his body was recovered after a search of about two days.
