World: US President Donald Trump has once again claimed that in 10 months he has ended eight seemingly unending conflicts between different countries, including the India-Pakistan conflict.
He made this statement at a White House press conference on Wednesday, marking the first anniversary of his second term as US President. This is Trump’s 90th time claiming to have stopped the India-Pakistan conflict. He also said:
In the 10 months since assuming office, I have stopped eight seemingly unending conflicts, including the long-running conflict between Cambodia and Thailand, the Kosovo-Sofia conflict, and the Congo-Rwanda conflict.
Of these, stopping the conflict between India and Pakistan is crucial. Eight fighter jets were shot down in this conflict. Both countries are nuclear-armed. In this context, I believe the war between them would have escalated into a nuclear war.
Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, who visited the United States last year, praised me for preventing this war. He said that I (Trump) saved 10 million lives by preventing this war.
When asked how the daily lives of ordinary Americans would have improved if he had received the Nobel Peace Prize, Trump said, “I have prevented eight wars and saved millions of lives. There are millions of people in every country. When you multiply that by eight, you can see how many millions of lives have been saved by preventing wars. If the war between India and Pakistan had continued, the death toll could have been 10 to 20 million. In that sense, the fact that I saved millions of lives is a huge thing. I should have received the Nobel Peace Prize for every war I prevented. But I didn’t insist on it.”
As part of this event, the White House released a compilation of the Trump administration’s accomplishments, titled “365 Wins in 365 Days: The Ascendancy of President Trump, a New Era of Victory and Progress.” Specifically, under the heading “Establishing American Leadership on the Global Stage,” it stated that “Trump’s efforts have brought peace between India and Pakistan.”
It’s worth noting that Trump has been making this claim, while India has consistently denied any third-party interference in the India-Pakistan ceasefire.
