Tamil Nadu: Minister A.M. Shahjahan’s statement on power supply, review of development projects

Tamil Nadu: Amidst concerns about power supply, State Power Minister and Minister in Charge of Nagapattinam District, A.M. Shahjahan, clarified that there is no power shortage anywhere in the state. He stated that power supply is occasionally disrupted in some areas due to strong winds, but this is not a major problem and the situation is completely normal.

Minister A.M. Shahjahan attended a review meeting held at the Nagapattinam District Collector’s office on Tuesday. The meeting reviewed ongoing development projects in the district and projects initiated during the previous government that were stalled due to the election process. The Minister took a detailed review of the current status of these projects from officials and directed them to complete them on time.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, the Minister informed that a report has also been prepared on the development projects needed for Nagapattinam district. He stated that based on these reports, important projects will be included in the upcoming budget statement to accelerate development work in the region.

Meanwhile, questions were raised about the release of water from the Mettur Dam for Kuruvai cultivation. The Minister stated that the Mettur Dam’s water level is currently 79 feet, and the relevant officials are assessing the situation regarding the release. He indicated that further decisions will be made based on the needs of farmers and the water level situation.

The Minister also reiterated that the power supply in the state is completely stable and there is no major crisis. He stated that only a few areas experience short-term power outages due to strong winds or weather conditions, which are restored immediately.

According to officials, the review of development projects is aimed at expediting pending projects and setting priorities for the new budget. Several departmental officials from the district were present at the meeting and presented progress reports on ongoing projects.

Thus, Minister A.M. Shahjahan’s statement and the review meeting indicate that the state government is focused on accelerating development projects and maintaining a strong power supply system.
