A small satellite was built and launched by school students: Minister praised it

Tamil Nadu: A team of 13 11th-grade students studying at Ariyakudi Government Higher Secondary School near Karaikudi in Sivaganga district has designed and built a small satellite balloon named VigoSat-1.
Led by V. Vishnu, a team of students, including G. Bipin Kumar, U. Manoj Kumar, V. Hariswar, S. Mithun, V. Muthukaruppan, A. Rashid Ahmed, N. Asik Rahman, S. Muthukumar, S. Someshwar, P. Abhimanyu, S. Harikaran, and R. Bhavendan, designed the satellite over the past six months. The launch took place on Friday from a balloon in the school playground.
Student V. Vishnu said: “Under the guidance of school teachers, a team of 13 students designed this satellite named VigoSat-1.”
It was launched into space from a balloon and reached an altitude of 22 km above the Earth. This satellite will help detect fungus in the air. He said that by knowing the nature of the air, farmers can save their crops.
Cooperative Minister K.R. Periyakaruppan, Karaikudi Assembly Member S. Mangudi, Sivaganga District Principal Education Officer Balathandayuthabani, District Education Officer (Devakottai) Marimuthu, school principal V.J. Britto, teachers, students, and the general public participated in large numbers. Former Director of the Indian Space Research Organization, Mylsami Annadurai, posted a video of the students’ efforts and praised them.
