NEET exam irregularities: Medical students will not be granted leave

Tamil Nadu: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued an important advisory for medical college students. The commission has stated that no leave should be granted without valid reasons on May 2nd, the day before the NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) exam, and on May 3rd, the day of the exam. The exam will be held nationwide on May 3rd for admission to undergraduate medical courses.

The NMC has taken this step to maintain transparency and prevent any irregularities in the exam. The commission stated that irregularities were discovered during last year’s NEET exam, raising questions about the exam’s credibility.

During the 2024 NEET exam, allegations surfaced that some medical college students had cheated by appearing in the exam in place of the actual candidates. Investigations in Bihar, Rajasthan, and Jharkhand led to the arrest of seven people. These incidents became a topic of discussion nationwide and raised questions about the security of the examination system.

Additionally, in some cases, it was revealed that candidates who had already secured medical seats were reappearing for the NEET exam to influence the counseling process. This information was revealed during document verification, revealing flaws in the system.

Considering these incidents, the NMC has sent a circular to all medical colleges. It clearly states that students should avoid granting leave on May 2nd and 3rd. Leave should be granted only in circumstances where there is a compelling reason.

The Commission believes that monitoring student attendance during the exam will prevent any untoward activities and ensure that the examination process remains completely fair and transparent.

Following this directive, pre-examination preparations and security arrangements are expected to be further tightened in medical colleges across the country. The administration’s focus this time is to completely prevent any kind of disturbance so that the NEET exam can be conducted peacefully and fairly.
