Hirakud Dam to release water from 1st June, 15 downstream Odisha districts on high alert

Sambalpur: Floodwater is likely to be released from the Hirakud reservoir in Sambalpur district of Odisha anytime from June 1. The Hirakud Dam Authority has issued a warning in this regard, alerting the District Collectors of 15 downstream districts.

According to the authority’s letter, the gates of the Hirakud Dam may be opened at any time between June 1 and October 31 to control floodwater.

A floodwater control room telephone number has been provided for reference. People have been warned not to enter the river during this period.

The District Collectors have been instructed to issue warnings at their level to ensure public safety.
