Every school should have a book fair: Dinamani editor K. Vaithyanathan

Tamil Nadu: K. Vaithyanathan, editor of Dinamani, said that every school should hold a book exhibition.

On behalf of Kanchipuram SSKV Schools, the inaugural ceremony of the 25th Book Fair was held on Wednesday at the SSKV Matriculation Higher Secondary School Seminar Hall. The ceremony was presided over by C.K. Raman, school secretary. School Management Committee member D.R. Subramaniam, Bodhi Center Director Ramesh, and SSKV Matriculation School Principal R. Vijayalakshmi were present. S. Radha, headmistress of SSKV Higher Secondary School, welcomed the attendees.

Dinamani editor K. Vaithyanathan attended the ceremony and inaugurated the book exhibition, saying:

Many schools do not hold book fairs. Other schools should also hold book fairs like this one. When children and students buy a book, they read it and treasure it as if it were their own. They will feel the need to read other books as well. Children should be taught to read by writing. If children develop the habit of reading by the age of 10, they will continue to read. If there is a library in the home, children will feel the need to read.

When the budget statement announced that the library budget had been reduced, someone stood up and said, “If you have to reduce it, then reduce it. A shortage of books will only lead to an increase in prisons.” Books have the ability to turn lives upside down.

We use our mobile phones to download many things. If our mobile phones don’t have a SIM card, everything we download will be lost. Instead, if we read many good books and upload them to our minds, they will remain in our minds. Everything we read until the age of 50 will remain in our minds. After the age of 70, what we read will no longer be in our minds. So my request is that instead of downloading, we should upload.

The establishment of the SSKV school for girls’ education in Kanchipuram 120 years ago is a major revolution. Surpassing 100 years is not uncommon. Having an organization that has endured for generations is a significant achievement.

Dinamani was a daily newspaper launched in 1934, before India gained independence, to commemorate the 13th birth anniversary of the great poet Bharathiyar, to pass on his ideals to the next generation, and to serve as an outlet for the ongoing freedom struggle.

He also said that if children are encouraged to read books, it is a victory for the new generation.

At the function, Shalini, principal of SSKV Boys’ Matriculation Higher Secondary School, and Vijayraj, a bookseller, spoke about the importance of reading.

Malvizhi, headmistress of SSKV Primary School, offered her thanks.

The book fair, which sells over 100,000 books from 40 publishers, includes 30 in Tamil and 10 in English. The fair runs until December 9th.
