Two more arrested in TSPSC paper leak case

Hyderabad (IANS) | The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC) exam paper leak case has arrested two more accused. Mibaiyya and his son Janardhan, residents of Mahbubnagar, have been arrested. In this, the number of people arrested so far has increased to 19. Mibaiyya had allegedly paid Rs 2 lakh to Lavadyavath Dhakya, one of the accused already arrested in the case, for the question paper of the examination conducted by TSPSC for the recruitment of assistant engineers. Janardhan appeared in the examination.

Dhakya is the husband of a teacher, Renuka, who had received question papers from prime accused Praveen Kumar, an employee of TSPSC. He had bought the question paper for his brother Rajeshwar Nayak, who appeared in the AE exam. He along with Dhakya had sold question papers to others.

The TSPSC scam came to light on March 12, due to which 15 accused were arrested by canceling Group 1 preliminary exam, assistant engineer, AEE and DAO exams.

Praveen, who worked as an assistant section officer in TSPSC, and Rajasekhara Reddy, a network administrator in ATSPSC, had allegedly stolen question papers of some exams from a computer in a confidential section of the commission and sold it to other accused.

The SIT had last week informed the Telangana High Court that it has arrested 17 accused in the case since March 13. She also informed the court that she is trying to arrest one more accused from New Zealand.

The exam paper leak case created a sensation in Telangana. Opposition parties Congress and BJP blamed the BRS government for the leak affecting lakhs of unemployed in the state.

The SIT summoned TSPS President Janardhana Reddy, Secretary Anita Ramachandran and member B.K. Linga Reddy has also been questioned.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is also probing allegations of money laundering in the case. Earlier this week, it questioned Praveen Kumar and Rajasekhara Reddy.

ED officials are believed to have interrogated both the accused on the basis of inputs received from Shankar Lakshmi, in-charge of the confidential section cell at TSPSC. She appeared before the ED on April 11 and was questioned for over 10 hours.

It was from the computer in the confidential section that Praveen and Rajasekhar had stolen question papers of various examinations conducted by TSPSC for recruitment in government departments.
