University of Hyderabad’s CASEST bags Technovation Award
HYDERABAD: The Centre for Advanced Studies in Electronics Science and Technology (CASEST) at the School of Physics, University of Hyderabad (UoH), has been honored with the prestigious Technovation Award 2024 for ‘Best Skilling Entity’ by the India Electronics Semiconductor Association (IESA), the leading industry body for Electronics Semiconductor Design and Manufacturing in the country.
This distinguished accolade recognizes CASEST’s exceptional contribution to hands-on training, benefiting over 150 students enrolled in the MTech (Integrated Circuits Technology) and M.Tech (Microelectronics and VLSI) programs. The focus of this training lies in Integrated Circuits Design and Semiconductor Manufacturing processes, seamlessly integrated into the course curriculum. The dedicated fabrication facility, situated in the Centre for Nanotechnology at UoH, boasts state-of-the-art amenities for micro/nano electronic and semiconductor device fabrication.
In a significant development in 2023, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology awarded the Chip2Startup project to CASEST. This initiative not only bestowed upon them the responsibility to spearhead the project but also provided free access to centralized Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools and development boards. This strategic move aims to fortify both teaching and research programs, fostering the production of a larger pool of skilled human resources essential for the National semiconductor mission.
Expressing his elation, Prof BJ Rao, Vice-Chancellor of UoH, emphasized, “The award for skill to CASEST symbolizes the long-standing commitment and delivery of high-quality training and education imparted in CASEST for decades now. This award must spur the stakeholders to keep delivering quality at scale and be much more competitive in the rapidly changing dynamic ecosystem of the country.” The recognition underscores CASEST’s pivotal role in advancing the skills landscape and contributing significantly to India’s semiconductor industry.
