War against communal forces needed: Shivakumar

Bengaluru (IANS). Karnataka Congress President and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar on Tuesday said that at present there is a need to wage war against communal forces.

Speaking in Bengaluru after attending the flag-hoisting ceremony at the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) office premises, Shivakumar said: “The seeds of poison are being sown in the country on the basis of religion, caste and creed, while non-violence, peace, There is a need to wage another war of freedom for tolerance and brotherhood. The contemporary struggle is to fight against communal forces.”

Shivakumar said that the country was earlier united under the Congress party and at present, the country is getting united under the opposition Alliance India.

“Karnataka was the first state to wage war against the British. In Karnataka, which provided the platform for the independence movement, India also took shape.”

“It is our responsibility to empower India and protect the country. Congress party is the party which gave freedom to the country, built it and took it on the path of progress.

“We cannot sit quietly after hoisting the flag and singing the national anthem. We know what happened to freedom in this country. Shivakumar said, “The incidents of genocide in the state of Manipur, communal clashes in Haryana and lynching in Uttar Pradesh bear testimony to the fact who is crushing freedom in the country.”

The Deputy Chief Minister further said that the objectives of freedom like integrity, co-existence, communal harmony and inclusiveness have been tarnished.

Shivakumar alleged, “The BJP does not understand the importance of independence. The saffron party has no history of participating in the freedom struggle.”
