SMVDU organizes workshop on ‘Possibilities of Micro Irrigation’
School of Economics, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) hosted a one-day workshop on “Potential of Micro Irrigation under Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana” funded by Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR).
The chief guest of the programme, SMVDU Vice Chancellor, Professor Pragati Kumar, in his inaugural address stressed the importance of economics for the successful implementation of any government scheme like PMKSY.
Dr. Ashutosh Vashishtha, Dean, Faculty of Management, also addressed the gathering and highlighted some important aspects of PMKSY.
Dr. Kakali Majumdar, Project Director, Associate Professor, School of Economics, provided a comprehensive overview of the agenda of the workshop.
Dr. Roop Lal Sharma, Head of School of Economics also spoke on this occasion.
Dr. Meenakshi Rajeev, Professor, IIT Jammu, who was the guest of honor at the event, highlighted the concerns of micro irrigation with emphasis on impact assessment, credit utilization, spillover effects, etc.
Udhampur DHO Parminder Singh highlighted the potential of horticulture crops in Jammu region. Dr. Pawan Kumar Sharma, Associate Professor, SKUAST Jammu, enriched the workshop by discussing in detail various aspects of PMKSY and ground level realities and problems.
There was an interactive session with PMKSY beneficiaries, non-beneficiary farmers, SHGs and Panchayat people. The session was moderated by Mahesh Kumar Verma, Joint Director, (SLUB) and Sanjeev Khajuria, Technical Assistant Joint Director Agriculture. Verma listened to the problems of the farmers and provided possible solutions to them.
The vote of thanks for the inaugural program was given by Dr. Pabitra Kumar Jena, Assistant Professor, School of Economics. Other participants of this ICSSR funded workshop were faculty members, scholars and postgraduate students from various universities. The workshop concluded with a summary note presented by Dr. Alisha Mahajan, Research Associate.
