Uganda to host ICC Women’s T20 World Cup qualifiers
Kampala (IANS) | The International Cricket Council (ICC) has selected Uganda to host the final round of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier. Uganda Cricket Association (UCA) chief executive Alan Mugume confirmed the decision to Xinhua News Agency. The event, to be held at the Lugogo Cricket Oval in the capital Kampala, is from December 7-18. Eight teams will participate, including hosts Uganda — Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Rwanda, Nigeria, Namibia and two others.
According to the ICC, the top two teams will play for the global qualifiers to represent Africa. Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 will be held in Bangladesh. UCA Operations Manager Joshua Mwanza thanked the ICC for allowing Uganda to host the event. We are excited to host the T20 Women’s Qualifier, Mwanza said. This shows the confidence that the ICC has in our ability to host such a large event.
Uganda played in the 2018 T20 Women’s Global Qualifier in the Netherlands after winning the African Regional Qualifier in Namibia in 2017.
