BSF celebrated foundation day in salbagan
Agartala: Border Security Force (BSF) celebrated its 59th Raising Day during a program organized at Sector Headquarters Salbagan, West Tripura on Friday. Apart from other ranks and officers of the force, other BSF officers were present at the event. Several programs were organized to celebrate the Raising Day of BSF at various places in the state.
At Salbagan, a Barakhana was organized with the participation of officers, subordinate officers and other ranks along with cultural programme. Retired BSF personnel were also invited to attend Barakhana along with their families at nearby BSF locations.
DIG (Acting IG) RK Singh extended his best wishes and congratulations to the BSF jawans, retired BSF personnel and their families. The Border Security Force was established on December 1, 1965 to guard the international border and guard Indian territorial boundaries. Earlier, the security of the Indian border was done by the state police of the respective states.
The personnel of the force participated shoulder to shoulder with the Indian Army in the 1971 war and played a vital role in the attack on the Pak Army by the Indian Army as well as providing shelter and training to the Mukti Bahini warriors of East Pakistan.
In its journey of 59 years, BSF has grown from an initial strength of 25 battalions to 193 battalions (including 4 Disaster Management Bn). BSF has a vast experience and glorious history of fighting terrorism in Punjab and Kashmir, fighting insurgency in the North-Eastern region and controlling naxalism in Chhattisgarh and Odisha.
During elections, law and order duties compel personnel to prove their mettle in handling difficult situations. Border Security Force is efficiently guarding the borders of Pakistan and Bangladesh with different types of challenges and working conditions. The state of Tripura has 856 km of IB which is being effectively manned by BSF.
Along with maintaining the sanctity and security of the border, BSF has also conducted operations against drugs and narcotics. During the year 2023, BSF seized narcotics worth Rs 23,12,13,667 in Tripura. A total of smuggled goods worth Rs 64,83,90,565 were seized in Tripura during the year.
