Couple offered 1002 liquor bottles to Koragajja temple

Udupi: A couple in Karnataka recently offered 1002 bottles at the Swami Koragajja temple in Udupi district. As per the ritual, offerings in the form of sacred liquor were distributed among the devotees as ‘Prasad’.

The couple, hailing from Shaligram in Udupi, offered liquor bottles to the temple and sought blessings after their wish of having a child was fulfilled.

The couple, married for many years, did as they had once promised by offering bottles of liquor. Korgajja was said to be a common man whose family tradition included drinking wine and making offerings to the gods.

It is also widely believed that Koragajja, a highly revered deity in Tulu Nadu, Karnataka, belonged to a family that was involved in theft.

It is said that his family also used to make offerings to the gods in the form of liquor. However, Korgajja is not the only temple in the country where devotees offer liquor to the deities.

Devotees visit many temples across the country including the 6000 year old Kaal Bhairav Temple in Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh, Kali Mata Temple in Delhi, Tarapith, Birbhum in West Bengal, Patiala Kali Temple in Punjab, Khabis Baba Temple in Lucknow etc. ,Also offer liquor to the gods.
