Father killed his daughter, friendship with a boy from another religion cost him dearly
New Delhi: The Aluva West police in Ernakulam have apprehended a 43-year-old man on charges of killing his 14-year-old daughter by forcibly administering pesticide to her. The accused, identified as Abis Mohammad, subjected her to severe physical assault with an iron rod prior to the pesticide poisoning. The police investigation suggests that his motive was anger over his daughter’s relationship with a boy from a different religious community. Despite repeated warnings, the daughter continued her involvement with the boy.
The victim, Fatima, was admitted to a private hospital’s intensive care unit in Kochi on the 29th of the previous month. She received medical treatment but, unfortunately, could not be saved. According to the First Information Report (FIR), after discovering her daughter’s relationship, the father confiscated her phone and denied her access to it.
Undeterred, the daughter maintained contact with the boy via another phone. Subsequently, her father physically assaulted her, inflicting injuries to her hands and legs with an iron rod and attempting to take her life. Following the incident, the accused was apprehended by the police and has been in judicial custody since. A case has been registered against Abis under sections 342, 324, 326-A, and 307 of the Indian Penal Code, as well as section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act. The police will add a charge of murder to the case.
