Hyderabad: Five lives saved with brain-dead farmer’s organs through Jeevandan initiative

Hyderabad: In a great example of generosity, the family of farmer Vampu Kondaiah of Nelavalapalli village in Chintapalli mandal of Nalgonda district agreed to donate his organs after he was declared brain dead at a private hospital in Hyderabad. Kondaiah fainted at his home on July 21 and was first rushed to a private hospital in Devarakonda. He was later shifted to a corporate hospital in Hyderabad for advanced treatment. Despite the efforts of doctors, his condition did not improve and he was declared brain dead on Tuesday.

Following the declaration, Kondaiah’s wife Yadamma agreed to donate the organs under the Jeevandan organ donation programme, a government initiative aimed at saving lives through cadaveric organ donation. The surgeons successfully removed five organs—liver, two kidneys and two corneas—which were allocated to five patients requiring transplant. Health officials lauded the family’s noble decision, which not only gave hope to five individuals but also helped raise awareness about the life-saving potential of cadaveric organ donation.
