Jalandhar: Two people arrested for attacking police
Phagwara: Nakodar City police have arrested two men for allegedly attacking a police officer on duty. Investigating officer Dilbag Singh has identified the accused as Mandeep Singh and Bhagat Veer Singh, residents of Mirapur village. ASI Amrik Singh said he was on duty near Sharqpur village. He said Mandeep Singh, who was driving a scooter in an inebriated state, started misbehaving and abusing when he was stopped for checking. He then called Bhagat Veer Singh, who arrived at the spot and the two men attacked the ASI and his colleague. A case has been registered against the accused and six others.
1 arrested for making casteist remarks
Phagwara: Nurmahal police have arrested a villager for allegedly making casteist remarks and attacking a fellow resident. DSP Sukhpal Singh said the accused has been identified as Amanpreet Singh alias Kala, resident of Batura village. A complaint in this regard was lodged by Buta Ram, a resident of the same village. According to the complaint, Amanpreet Singh made casteist remarks against him, assaulted him and vandalised the house of Harjinder alias Jindi, with whom the accused had a quarrel earlier. A case has been registered.
1 arrested for selling illicit liquor
PHAGWARA: Bilga police arrested a villager for selling country-made illicit liquor. Investigating officer Vijay Kumar said 25 bottles of illicit liquor were seized from the possession of Harjeet Singh alias Jeeti, a resident of Mau Sahib village. A case has been registered against him under the Punjab Excise Act.
Three men snatch cash, case registered
PHAGWARA: Shahkot police have registered a case against three men for attacking a man and looting cash. Investigating officer Balveer Singh identified the accused as Jagtar Singh, Karanwar Singh and Lovepreet Singh, all residents of Bajwa Kalan village. Sukhwant Singh, a resident of Jagatpur Sohal village, has lodged a complaint that while he was returning home on the evening of December 31, three people stopped him on the way, beat him up and looted him. The police have registered a case and further investigation is underway.
Meat shops to remain closed
Hoshiarpur: District Magistrate Komal Mittal has issued orders to keep the slaughterhouses and meat shops located on the route of Nagar Kirtan closed from 12 noon to 3 pm on January 4 on the occasion of Gurupurb. On the request of Sant Karamjit Singh, head of Dera Gurdwara Tibba Sahib, the District Magistrate has ordered the slaughterhouse and meat shops at Rahimpur Chowk on Phagwara Road in Hoshiarpur to remain closed during the said time period.
