JK: additional force in the tail, Search for terrorists continues in Rajouri
Poonch: Additional security personnel were deployed in Poonch district on Monday while search operations continued in the forested area of Dera Ki Gali, where two army vehicles were ambushed by heavily armed terrorists from across the border last week. Officials said additional forces have also been deployed in Bafliaz area of Poonch district.
Four Army soldiers lost their lives while three others were injured in the ambush on Thursday last week. Meanwhile, a tearful farewell was given to four martyred soldiers, Naik Birendra Singh, Rifleman Gautam Kumar, Naik Karan Kumar and Rifleman Chandan Kumar at a wreath laying ceremony in Rajouri on Sunday.
The Indian Army on Saturday said it was investigating the deaths of three civilians in the Poonch-Rajouri sector, where terrorists ambushed the forces.
Taking the X, the Indian Army posted, “Search operations are underway by security forces in the operation area following the December 21 incident. Reports have been received regarding the death of three civilians in the area. The matter is under investigation. “
“The Indian Army is committed to extend full support and cooperation in the conduct of the investigation,” the Army said in its post.
A fierce encounter started at 3.45 pm on Thursday after terrorists opened fire on two army vehicles passing through Dera Gali in Poonch area of Rajouri.
“On December 21, at around 3.45 pm, two Army vehicles, which were carrying troops to the operational site, came under firing from terrorists. The troops immediately retaliated,” an Army official said.
“Our troops are in the process of intensifying the ongoing joint operation against terrorists in the area since yesterday evening. The operation is taking place in the 48 Rashtriya Rifles area,” the officer said.
