Manoj Jha on Uniform Civil Code, says “imaginary uniformity harms diversity”

Patna: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Manoj Kumar Jha on Tuesday said the Uniform Civil Code should not be used as a tool as imaginary uniformity harms diversity.
It is noteworthy that the Uttarakhand government will introduce the Uniform Civil Code Bill in the state assembly during a special session in February.
Manoj Jha told ANI, “I suggest them (Uttarakhand government) to refer to the recommendations made by the 15th Law Commission. UCC should not be used as a tool. India is a diverse country. Imaginary uniformity “Harms diversity.”
Earlier, Uttarakhand CM Dhami also told that the UCC committee has completed its work and they will submit their draft (on UCC) to us on February 2.
“The committee has given us the date of February 2, when they will submit their draft (on the UCC) to us. After that, necessary formalities will be completed to make it a law. A meeting of the state cabinet will also be held. We will be there also. Will discuss it. The Assembly session will begin from February 5…It is a special session for the UCC. The bill will be introduced and passed during the session,” Dhami told ANI.
According to the notification of the Assembly Secretariat, the Uttarakhand Assembly session will be held from February 5 to 8. Apart from this, the government will also present a bill in the House for 10 percent horizontal reservation in government services for the state agitators and their dependents.
Uttarakhand had constituted a panel on Uniform Civil Code under the leadership of Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai on May 27, 2022. UCC was promised to the people of the state before the 2022 assembly elections in Uttarakhand.
Article 44 of the Constitution of India states that the State shall endeavor to secure a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) throughout India.
The UCC proposes a common set of laws dealing with marriage, inheritance, adoption and other matters. The UCC, which has been a hot topic over the past four years that has polarized opinions, came to light after Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented a strong case for the implementation of a similar law in June last year in an address in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. Came at the front.
