Supreme approval on Haryana government’s efforts to curb stubble burning

Chandigarh. Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal welcomed the Supreme Court’s remarks vindicating Haryana government’s efforts to control pollution caused by stubble burning in Punjab’s way of giving financial incentives related to stubble burning. Advice has been given to learn from Haryana. He said that today the Supreme Court has made it completely clear who is actually guilty in the Parali case. The Chief Minister thanked his farmer brothers for successfully completing this difficult task. He said that the Haryana government has taken the problem of stubble burning seriously and with the cooperation of farmers has achieved considerable success in reducing the incidents of stubble burning.

Manohar Lal said that pollution is an issue which is related to health and there should not be politics on it. We all need to work together to solve this problem. But sadly, some political parties and governments of neighboring states are doing politics on this. Recently, due to pollution, the situation became such that schools had to be closed at some places. Therefore, we will have to work together to ensure that such situations do not arise again.

The Chief Minister said that the tireless efforts being made by the Government to curb stubble burning and actively reduce the incidents of fire have resulted in a steady decline in the incidents of stubble burning in Haryana as compared to previous years, while in Punjab the incidents of stubble burning have increased. There are more incidents. He said that in the year 2021, 5993 incidents of stubble burning were reported in Haryana, whereas in 2022 it reduced to 3233. Whereas in the year 2023, the incidents of stubble burning reduced to 1986. In this way, there has been a 39 percent reduction in the incidents of stubble burning in Haryana between 2022 and 2023. In comparison to Haryana, 31932 incidents of stubble burning have been reported in Punjab in the year 2023, which is much more than Haryana and is the main reason for pollution in Delhi NCR.

Manohar Lal said that the continuously decreasing incidents of stubble burning in the state prove that the efforts of the Haryana government to make farmers aware about crop residue management have proved successful on the ground. The state government is making all out efforts to achieve the target of zero-burning of stubble. Haryana Government is not only running an awareness campaign regarding not burning stubble, but Haryana Government has also made a provision of incentive amount of Rs 1000 per acre for not burning stubble and proper management of stubble. Apart from this, the Agriculture Department is also providing various machines and equipment to the farmers for stubble management.
