MP: Unseasonal rain, strong winds and hailstorm bring coolness to the state

Madhya Pradesh: Over the past 24 hours, the weather across the entire state of Madhya Pradesh underwent a sudden change due to a cyclonic circulation and trough activity in the atmosphere. As a result of this system, more than half of the state experienced rainfall, strong winds, and hailstorms.

The weather remained unsettled starting Thursday night and persisted in several districts until Friday morning.

Weather Forecast

According to the Meteorological Department, this unsettled weather pattern is likely to continue for the next one or two days. Many parts of Madhya Pradesh may remain under cloudy skies, with the possibility of light to moderate rainfall and strong winds. Temperatures are expected to remain slightly below normal, particularly during the morning and evening hours. Farmers have been advised to remain vigilant and take precautionary measures to protect their crops.

According to the Meteorological Department, approximately half an inch of rainfall was recorded in Betul and Damoh. Meanwhile, reports of strong winds accompanied by rain have been received from Bhopal, Jabalpur, Gwalior, Chhatarpur, Mandla, Narsinghpur, Sagar, Seoni, Datia, Dhar, Narmadapuram, Indore, Pachmarhi, Raisen, Ratlam, Sheopur, Ujjain, Agar-Malwa, Shajapur, Mauganj, Satna, Morena, Umaria, Jhabua, Barwani, and Pandhurna.

Reports of hailstorms have also been received from Ujjain, Pandhurna, Betul, Jhabua, and Barwani. The strong winds and sudden rainfall have caused damage to standing crops in several areas, raising concerns among farmers.

In Jabalpur, light rain began around 4:00 AM on Friday and intensified after 9:00 AM. This unseasonal rainfall and the accompanying cool winds caused a drop in temperature, providing relief from the heat. However, traffic and daily commute were disrupted in some areas due to waterlogging on the roads. According to the Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature in the city is expected to hover around 27°C, while the minimum temperature is likely to remain around 17°C. This sudden shift in weather conditions is primarily attributed to a Western Disturbance and moisture flowing in from the Bay of Bengal. While city dwellers are enjoying this cool weather, farmers in rural areas are anxious about their crops, which are ready for harvest.

In Chhatarpur, light drizzle and cool winds blowing since Friday morning have rendered the weather pleasant. The sky has become overcast with dense clouds, and the sun has remained hidden, resulting in a drop in temperature. The rainfall has provided relief from the recent heat. In Shujalpur, the weather changed abruptly overnight, with intermittent rain occurring on two occasions. Consequently, the demand for harvester machines has surged as farmers scramble to harvest their crops as quickly as possible.

Similarly, in Mauganj, light rain accompanied by thunder began on Friday morning, altering the weather’s mood. This sudden rainfall has heightened farmers’ concerns regarding potential damage to the standing crops in their fields.
