Stalin’s statement: Vows to continue criticizing the government.

Tamil Nadu Tamil Nadu: DMK President and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has said that on any issue related to state’s rights, including the demand for exemption from NEET, the government can take concrete steps only if it follows the DMK’s stand. She gave this statement in the consultative meeting of DMK women’s wing held at Anna Arivalayam in Chennai on Saturday.
Addressing the meeting, Stalin said that he had earlier also raised the question whether the present government would be able to work for six months without any criticism. According to him, after this comment some people started spreading rumors that DMK is conspiring to topple the government, whereas this is not the case at all. He clarified that DMK is playing its role as a responsible and alert opposition party and will continue to do so strongly.
Stalin said that the job of the opposition is to expose the mistakes of the government and DMK is fulfilling this responsibility. He also said that the aim of the party is to protect the interests of the public and the rights of the state, and not to promote any political instability.
In his address, he also raised questions on the law and order situation in the state. Stalin asked whether the government cannot be criticized on the increasing violence, sexual crimes and murders against women. He said that it is not appropriate to remain silent on such serious incidents and it is the duty of the opposition to put these issues before the public.
He also said that the government may be given time to fulfill its election promises, but when it comes to the security and basic rights of citizens, it is necessary to question it. Stalin stressed that there could be no compromise on matters related to public safety.
The role of DMK women’s wing was also discussed in the meeting and emphasis was laid on further strengthening the organization. The party leadership said that issues related to women will be taken up on priority basis and voice will be continuously raised to protect their rights in the state.
This statement is being seen as another indication of the ongoing conflict between the opposition and the ruling party in Tamil Nadu politics. The DMK leadership says that it will continue to corner the government on every issue which is related to the interests of the people and the rights of the state.
