The main accused in the assault case arrested after a month
The Sector 19 crime branch of the local police today claimed to have arrested the main suspect in a brutal attack on a youth.
The suspect has been identified as Pankaj, a resident of Sector 30, Chandigarh.
DCP (Law and Order) Nikita Khattar said the victim, Amrinder Singh of Jandiala village in Jalandhar, in his complaint to the police on March 21, stated that he, along with his friends, including Jatin, had gone to Swiss Lounge restaurant in Sector 5 on March 18 and after staying there for half an hour, he decided to visit Jatin’s home.
He alleged that Pankaj, who was present there, started abusing him and started thrashing Jatin. After this, the suspect called about five to six boys and one of them hit the complainant with an iron rod and tried to run over his vehicle on him. After this, Pankaj broke a glass bottle and hit him on his neck. They fled the place while issuing him death threats.
A case under Sections 148, 149, 323, 324, 307 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code was registered at the Sector 5 police station.
The Sector 19 crime branch investigated the case and arrested the main suspect on Sunday.
He was produced in court, which remanded him in judicial custody.
