Bengaluru: A tragic incident unfolded in Mangaluru city, Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka, where a first-year MBBS student, identified as Prakriti Shetty (20), took her own life by jumping from the AJ Medical College hostel building. The authorities revealed that Prakriti, who hailed from Athani town in Belagavi district, was grappling with obesity, which proved insurmountable and led to her decision to end her life.

The police, in the course of their initial investigation, discovered a suicide note in which Prakriti expressed her deep dissatisfaction with life and attributed her decision to her struggles with obesity. The note revealed her aspirations to complete the MBBS course but detailed how her persistent efforts to overcome obesity were in vain, resulting in debilitating depression. The police noted that the student took responsibility for her own demise. Further investigations into the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident are currently underway.
