Dengue case in Odisha crosses 1000-mark, Public Health Director advices people stay alert
Bhubaneswar: The dengue case in Odisha has reportedly crossed the 1000-mark, informed State Public Health Director Nilakantha Mishra on Tuesday.
As many as 1067 dengue positive cases have been confirmed in the State this year so far, said Mishra adding that there were only 660 cases last year by this time.
The highest number of dengue cases has been reported from Khurda district with 290 positives, this is followed by Sundergarh, where 218 people have tested positive for viral infection till date, the Public Health Director said while adding that more than 200 cases also have been reported from the State Capital City- Bhubanewar.
The number of dengue cases this year in comparison to last year has seen the spike as the number of testing has been increased, he mentioned.
The Public Health Director further said that a special focus has been given for Rourkela as the situation in the Steel City continues to be grim. However, there is no alarming situation in the State.
“Integrated health survey is underway in Odisha. The health teams are doing the survey at every doorstep. They have been directed to distribute Oral rehydration therapy (ORT) and zinc powder to the people,” Mishra said.
He also advised people across the state to stay alert and take precaution so that they do not fall prey to the viral infection, which is transmitted through the bite of infected mosquitoes.
