Punjab: Van to raise awareness about farm fires
Punjab: Deputy Commissioner Dr. Sona Thind today flagged off awareness vans to create awareness among farmers against stubble burning. The DC said that the district will soon be free from stubble burning. He said that nodal officers have been deployed to monitor the concerned villages. He said that cooperative societies have been instructed to ensure machinery for proper management of stubble. Apart from this, it is also being given subsidy. He said that it is everyone’s responsibility to prevent the rising level of pollution. He said that it is the duty of the present generation to leave a safe and clean environment for the coming generations. The DC said that nodal officers have been appointed in various villages to monitor the stubble burning activities.
He said that they will be held responsible if cases of stubble burning are reported from their areas. He said that this year paddy has been sown in 87,400 hectares in the district, which is likely to produce 5.5 lakh tonnes of stubble. DC Thind said that farmer training camps are being organized at block level and village level to make farmers aware about proper management of stubble. He said that subsidy on agricultural machinery is being provided to the selected farmers through the drawing process. He directed the officers of cooperative societies to ensure that all the cooperative societies in the district have subsidized agricultural machines for stubble management so that farmers can plow the stubble in the field. Chief Agriculture Officer Dr. Dharminderjit Singh Sidhu said that an awareness van will make farmers aware in the villages of Block Kheda on October 1, Block Sirhind from October 2 to 9 and Block Amloh from October 10 to 13.
