When the Congress is being allotted more seats, why should the Left’s seats be reduced? — P. Shanmugam

Tamil Nadu: When there is an opportunity to allocate more seats to the Congress party, why should the seat share for the Left be reduced? This question was raised by P. Shanmugam, the State Secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist).
Speaking to journalists who had gathered to cover a fundraising conference organized by the CPI(M) in Tiruvarur on Monday, he stated: “Vijay had demanded a CBI inquiry into the Karur incident; now, he himself has become entangled in it and is unable to extricate himself.
We have not raised any objection regarding the allocation of additional seats to the Congress party. Our contention is this: if there is a possibility of granting more seats to the Congress, why should the seat share allotted to the Left parties be curtailed?”
A committee has recently been constituted within the AIADMK to conduct negotiations regarding alliance partnerships. In contrast, agreements have already been finalized with several parties within the DMK-led alliance. Only a few agreements with other parties remain to be concluded. If Vijay were to join the BJP-AIADMK alliance, the DMK-led coalition would be further strengthened. All those currently extending their support to Vijay are doing so with the expectation that a new Chief Minister will emerge and that he will form a government independently. If he were to join an alliance, he would forfeit that support, and his prospects of becoming Chief Minister would vanish entirely. Vijay himself has stated that if he were to align with the AIADMK-BJP coalition, he would have no political future left.
Party District Secretary T. Murugayan, State Committee member I.V. Nagarajan, and others were also present during this interaction.
