The Union Home Secretary will review the security and police finances of Jammu and Kashmir.
Srinagar, March 23: Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan will chair a high-level meeting on Monday. The objective of this meeting is to assess the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir and to review the financial status of the Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) for the current fiscal year, while also deliberating on its requirements for the year 2026-27.
Official sources stated that the meeting is scheduled for 2:30 PM and will be conducted via video conferencing from New Delhi, with top civil and police officials from the Union Territory in attendance.
According to sources, several senior officials—including Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Home Secretary Chandraker Bharti, Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat, senior officers from the Police Headquarters, and the Inspectors General of Police (IGPs) from both the Jammu and Kashmir regions—will participate in this meeting.
This review is significant as security forces have intensified search operations in the upper reaches and forest areas to track down terrorists and dismantle their support networks. The meeting is also taking place as the fiscal year 2025-26 draws to a close.
Sources further indicated that the Union Home Secretary is expected to take stock of ongoing counter-terrorism operations, particularly in the hilly regions of the Jammu division, where the presence of foreign terrorists is suspected. With the onset of summer, security agencies are likely to further intensify their operations in these areas.
The role of ‘Over Ground Workers’ (OGWs) and efforts to dismantle their networks will also be discussed, as security agencies continue to tighten their noose around the support mechanisms aiding terrorists.
Apart from security matters, the JKP’s financial performance during the current fiscal year and its budgetary requirements for the upcoming year will also be reviewed. Officials noted that the modernization of the police force through the provision of advanced equipment is an ongoing process, although further improvements in this regard are currently under consideration.
