Thalapathy Vijay faces a setback as the Madras High Court imposes a ₹1.5 crore fine.

Entertainment: Tamil superstar Thalapathy Vijay has once again landed in legal trouble. After facing censorship issues with his film ‘Jana Nayakan’, the actor has now suffered a personal setback in the Madras High Court. According to Tamil media reports, the Madras High Court on Friday dismissed Vijay’s petition and upheld the ₹1.5 crore penalty imposed by the Income Tax Department. The case pertains to an alleged undisclosed income of ₹15 crore during the financial year 2015-16, when Vijay’s blockbuster film ‘Puli’ was released. It is reported that IT officials found discrepancies in his income during a property inspection, leading to the imposition of the penalty. Vijay had challenged the penalty in court, but received no relief. Following the court’s decision, tax authorities can now proceed with legal action. However, Vijay still has the option to appeal to the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT) on other grounds, which would be a separate matter.
