Rain Damage: Survey of Crop Losses in 8 Districts

Tamil Nadu: The process of assessing crop damage caused by rains across eight districts has commenced.
According to a press release issued by the government in this regard: Unseasonal hailstorms that occurred a few days ago in the districts of Madurai, Salem, and Tenkasi have damaged crops—including paddy, oilseeds, millets, cotton, and sugarcane—cultivated across approximately 810 hectares of land.
Furthermore, heavy rains and strong winds in the districts of Coimbatore, Dindigul, Erode, Krishnagiri, Madurai, Namakkal, Salem, and Tiruppur have adversely affected crops such as bananas, small onions, drumsticks, coconuts, and flowers, cultivated over an area of approximately 40 hectares.
The hailstorms have caused severe damage to paddy crops during the harvest season. Consequently, the Revenue and Agriculture Departments have been directed to jointly conduct a survey in the affected districts to verify the extent of the damaged crops and submit a comprehensive report.
