Telangana: Women farmers display over 70 varieties of seeds of traditional crops

Sangareddy: Women farmers of Deccan Development Society (DDS) displayed over 70 varieties of seeds of various traditional crops which were grown by farmers of Zaheerabad region. Most of these crops are almost extinct now. These crops include millets, pulses, oilseeds and cereals of different crops. Over 60 women farmers from 30 villages, called ‘seed protectors’, gathered at the premises of DDS in Pastapur during an event organised on the occasion of International Seed Day.

Woman farmer Jadla Chandramma, a resident of Bidakane displayed about 58 varieties of seeds in which she bagged the first prize, while Karna Narasamma, a resident of Gunjoti and Kandakam Mogulamma, a resident of Potlapalli won the second and third prizes by displaying 56 and 55 varieties of seeds respectively. Visitors visited the exhibition and interacted with the farmers to know the importance of seeds.
