Waterlogging on many roads due to continuous rain
Karur: It rained in many parts of Karur district of Tamil Nadu, causing waterlogging on many roads in the area. Moderate to heavy rainfall occurred at various places in the district including Karur, Puliyur, Velliyanai, Uppidamangalam and Mayanur.
Many parts including Pasupathipalayam and Tadavalaga have been heavily affected due to rain. Pedestrians are facing problems due to water logging on main roads.
It has also come to light that after continuous rains, rain water got mixed with sewage water at many places.
Sources said the local people have requested the Karur municipal administration to clear the water accumulated in the area.
On Saturday, the weather department issued a rain alert for 10 districts, including Chennai, Kanchipuram and Vellore, where there will be heavy rain.
In view of the rain, schools in nine districts of Chennai namely Kanyakumari, Tenkasi, Theni, Madhurai, Tirunelveli, Dindukkal, Sivagangai and Nellai were closed for a day.
Also, the weather department has predicted moderate rainfall to continue at isolated places over Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry and Karaikal for the next five days.
Heavy rainfall in southern India is caused by the northeast monsoon, also known as winter monsoon. The northeast monsoon is the counterpart of the southwest monsoon and usually occurs between October and December.
It is a comparatively smaller-scale version of the south-west monsoon, restricted exclusively to the southern peninsula.
